Volunteer Roles

 Bulls Volunteer Handbook

Introduction

Welcome to the Livermore Junior Football League (LJFL), home of the Bulls Football & Cheer teams. Our league thrives on the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, who play a pivotal role in ensuring a successful and enriching experience for our young athletes. This handbook serves as a comprehensive guide for head league officials to understand volunteer roles and effectively organize the season's needs.

Volunteer Requirements and Guidelines

  • Mandatory Volunteer Hours: Each family is required to fulfill volunteer hours—8 hours for football and 5 hours for cheer—to satisfy the season's commitment.

  • Sign-Up Process: Volunteers must log into their accounts, navigate to the Volunteering/DIBS Tab, and select positions of interest. Positions are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Age Requirement: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old due to liability concerns. Occasionally, students may assist under adult supervision, such as in concession sales.

  • Completion of Shifts: To receive credit, volunteers must sign in, complete their entire shift, and sign out. Failure to complete the task will result in losing those hours.

Team Volunteer Roles

Note: Team volunteer roles are monitored and tracked by the Team Parent.

  1. Game Monitoring (Minimum Play Recorder - MPR)

    • Responsibilities:

      • Ensure all players, regardless of ability, have equal participation opportunities.

      • Count and record plays during the game.

      • Ensure every eligible player meets the minimum play requirements per game.

    • Importance: This is the most crucial volunteer position for EVERY game. Without two game monitors per game (home and away), we risk a forfeit.

  1. Team Parent

    • Responsibilities:

      • Maintain team communication platform .

      • Arrange volunteer sign-up sheets for game-day roles and ensure all positions are filled before the game.

      • Organize team-building activities.

      • Plan end-of-year celebrations and gifts for coaches.

    • Role Significance: Team Parents act as liaisons between coaches and families, ensuring smooth communication and organization.

  1. Chain Crew

    • Games Required: Home games only.

    • Composition: Three volunteers per game.

    • Responsibilities:

      • Two volunteers hold the primary signal poles:

        • "Rear rod" marks the beginning of the current set of downs.

        • "Forward rod" marks the line to gain.

      • The third volunteer manages the "box," indicating the current down and line of scrimmage.

    • Pre-Game Requirement: The officiating crew will meet with the Chain Crew before the game to discuss expectations.

  1. Game Day Scoreboard Keeper

    • Games Required: Home games only.

    • Responsibilities:

      • Manage the time clock throughout the game.

      • Pay close attention to the Lead Referee for cues on when to start and stop the clock.

    • Requirement: Two volunteers are needed for this role per game.
